Pearl Lie, PhD
Scientist/Lab Operations Lead (2024-) |
Background: I am a cell biologist with a diverse background. I was originally trained in two distinct fields: blood-tissue barrier dynamics during my PhD and neurodegenerative diseases during my post-doc. I take pride in my productive research that resulted in 30 scientific publications. In the last three years, I worked on drug discovery and development at a biotech company, where I contributed to multiple pre-clinical and clinical-stage programs in inflammatory bowel disease, pulmonary fibrosis, and CNS disease therapies. It is an honor to be granted the opportunity to resume my academic career as a scientist and join the brilliant minds in Dr. Nilay Sethi’s laboratory.
Research Interests/Projects: I will focus on clinically relevant translational research in the molecular mechanisms of colorectal cancer pathogenesis. I am especially interested in the epigenetic regulation of aberrant stem cell-like program by SOX9 and its interacting partners. To this end, I will help develop innovative in vivo models and assays to address gaps in our understanding of colorectal cancer. Fun Facts and Interests: I am a cat butler and a home cook. In my spare time, I love tweaking recipes for improved nutritional value. I also love bringing people together by organizing alumni networking events and volunteering at Women in the Enterprise of Science & Technology. Contact: [email protected] |
