Massimiliano Saputo
Research Technician (2021 -)
Boston College '21
Background: I was born in New York City, and raised on Long Island. I graduated in May of 2021 from Boston College with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Mathematics. I have previously completed work in a genomics lab in the Boston College Biology Department in which I collected whole genome DNA sequence data from Indigobird samples, and prepared
samples for Illumina next-generation DNA sequencing. I also utilized Python, and the Linux/Unix command line to analyze this genomic data. I will begin working in the Sethi Lab at Dana-Farber in September of 2021 as a research technician, and I have aspirations of pursuing a career as a geneticist.

Research Interests/Projects: It fascinates me how the world of computational analysis and biology have molded together in the past decade or so. Throughout my time in the Sethi lab, I intend to start in the wet-lab setting, utilizing various sequencing techniques to better understand the cellular mechanisms behind colorectal cancer development, and the role of SOX9 in colorectal cancer gene regulation. While focusing on wet-lab experiments, I also intend to gain appreciation for how this genomic data can be collected and synthesized using bioinformatic platforms.

Fun facts: I have been a trombone player since I was in 4th grade. I have played in many different ensembles, including high school jazz band, various county and state ensembles, and most recently, the Boston College Marching Band, and University Wind Ensemble. I also enjoy playing tennis, going to the beach, cooking, hanging out with my family and friends, eating good food, and just being in nature.
