Daulet Aitymbayev
Research Technician (2021-) Ludwig-Maximilians-Munchen, M.Sc., '22 Nazarbayev University, B.Sc. '20 |
Background: I was born and raised in Shymkent but later moved to Astana, Kazakhstan to pursue my undergraduate studies. At Nazarbayev University I majored in biological sciences and received my B.Sc degree. I have been working on using GMOs for bioremediation applications to remove cancer-causing substances from the environment for the past 4 years. Moreover, I had the opportunity to intern at two international laboratories and try out different fields of biology such as protein science at the National University of Singapore and cancer biology at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Research Interests/Projects: One of my major research interests is genetically engineering organisms to utilize them in biotechnology or medicine. Previously I was working with various bacteria to specifically find use by genetically engineering them but now I am more inclined towards developing genetically engineered mouse models (GEMM) and growing organoids from patient cells to study colorectal cancer at Nilay’s lab. Also, I will be searching for specific transcriptional factors that promote colon cancer initiation. This in turn could lead to the potential development of drugs or therapy. Fun facts and interests: The fun fact is that I am also interested in astrobiology and astronomy. I believe that someday people will be multi-planetary species and for that biotechnological advances will be necessary. Outside of lab, I like going to the gym, reading books, making videos on youtube, and mentoring the younger generation of students who are interested in doing science.
